The Founder
Iām Elle, the founder of BLIP
BLIP was born from my own experience of living with epilepsy and the challenges I faced throughout diagnosis and treatment. What began as a personal frustration soon became something much bigger. Through conversations with other patients, families and carers, I realised that many of the difficulties I'd experienced were widely shared.
My journey began in 2022, when I was diagnosed with focal epilepsy following three years of an initial misdiagnosis. Throughout this process, I struggled to provide clinicians with reliable information about my seizures. Despite trying traditional diaries, tracking apps and existing wearable technologies I couldn't find a method that was practical, accessible or sustainable in everyday life.
Without consistent data understanding seizure patterns, evaluating treatment effectiveness and making informed decisions became increasingly difficult. This experience highlighted a gap in seizure management and ultimately inspired the development of BLIP.
Since beginning this journey, I've had the opportunity to engage with organisations such as Alder Hey Children's Hospital, The Walton Neurology Centre and Epilepsy Research Institute UK. This has enabled me to speak with medical professionals, patients and families to explore the challenges surrounding seizure tracking. These conversations have been invaluable in shaping BLIP's direction, particularly its potential to support children and their carers.
While my own experience was the starting point, BLIP's ambition extends far beyond it. I want to help change how seizures are understood and managed, empowering individuals with greater ownership of their health data while providing clinicians with clearer insights to support decision-making.
My hope is that BLIP will not only improve the experience of living with seizures but also contribute to a more informed, individualised approach to care and ultimately a better understanding of seizure conditions.
